Zicam and Cole-Eeze are over-the-counter drugs intended to shorten the duration of the common cold. The manufacturers of Zicam and Cole-Eeze also report that use of its products will cause cold symptoms to be less severe.
Zicamand Cole-Eeze Side Effects
Because neither Zicam or Cold-Eeze require a prescription, one might assume side effects of the drugs are mild. To the contrary, Zicam and Cole-Eeze have been linked with anosmia, a potentially permanent condition resulting in the loss of smell and taste. These side effects often are irreversible. The FDA currently is compiling reports of severe reactions to Zicam and Cold-Eeze.
The potentially serious side effects are linked only to the nasal zinc spray and swabs produced by Zicam and Cold-Eeze. Other products in that line are not affected.
